The Finnish International School of Tampere's parents' association works for the support of Finnish International School of Tampere and its students in many ways. Every year, the organization assists to fund several activities, such as local and international educational visits and trips, and organizes events where teachers, parents and students get to know each other better. With these activities the organization aims to build and keep up "the spirit of Amuri" - to make an enjoyable and safe school for the students. Schools name has been 'Amuri School' from when it was built 1953-1954 until year 2012 when it was officially changed into an international school. We still talk about the 'Amuri school' for historical reasons and because the building itself is situated at the heart of Amuri quarter in Tampere, so don't get confused!
Support to several activities
During the past years the biggest monetary contribution has been given to the 6th graders' school-camp trip to England. Several lectures and discussion panels have been organized to support the challenging task of parenting and upbringing. The organization has also sponsored field trips, school sports and excursions by offering transport and equipment.
The parents' association has provided theater and music performances for the students. We have bought several music and sport devices for the school, and also sponsored their maintenance fees. We have organized visits of the Skate Bus, where all the school's skates - and also the students' skates for a small fee - have been sharpened.
As we are still waiting for the school's renovation to take place, we wanted to add some extra comfort, and purchased new, fresh curtains for the classrooms. In addition, every spring each class receives a small sum of money for two scholarships/class ('the tsemppistipendi') and the graduating 9th graders receive roses provided by the parent's association.
For fundraising parents association organizes events, and collects voluntary membership fees. Halloween party has been a big success every year, and it has attracted crowds from all the grades to join the party at school on a dark October night. For Valentine's Day, the association has organized a multicultural event, which has become a new tradition for the midwinter. We have also sold theater tickets and organized the annual school photo session.
